May 18, 2022: 57 of my Jewish Africa photographs will be on exhibition at the Museum of Moroccan Judaism in Casablanca, Morocco from June 15, 2022 for at least one month. This exhibition was a long time coming due to certain logistical hurdles and covid delays. It will open on the final evening of the Jewish Africa Summit in Rabat/Casablanca from June 13~15, 2022.

January 28, 2022:
*** PUBLIC NOTICE OF INFRINGEMENT OF COPYRIGHT ***
by The Courier (Victoria, Australia), and Australian Community Media (ACM) (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) of my Jewish Photo Library photographs. View my images on the Courier website prior to their removal.

In September 2019, The Courier published 2 of my photographs of the Ballarat Hebrew Congregation (BHC) synagogue without my knowledge, consent, license, or payment. I only became aware of this fact in December in a random internet search of my name (I do that once in a while to see if any of my images are lurking in unauthorized places).

Within 24 hours of contacting the paper, my images were removed from the website (not so much a response of good will as it was an acknowledgement of copyright infringement — or they would not have removed the images). The images were run with proper accreditation but that does not indemnify them against infringement of copyright because having my name and the name of my Jewish photo archive proves they knew who the rightful creator and copyright holder was. The Courier did not exercise due diligence to confirm consent of usage prior to publication. I have never once heard back from the paper’s editor, Eugene Duffy, to whom I have written numerous times.

James Joyce, executive editor of the the paper’s parent company, Australian Community Media (ACM), claimed, but never backed up, “I can assure you that we take copyright matters seriously.” In another missive, "I can confirm that the images were provided to The Courier by the Ballarat Hebrew Congregation Inc. I am advised that president Mr John Abraham and his organisation say they have the necessary rights to use the images.”

Patently false — never ever do I extend third-party usage permission to any Jewish community I photograph. As noted, the Courier failed to do due diligence nor does the accreditation indemnify the paper against copyright infringement. As the parent company, ACM also bears responsibility and culpability.

It is not in the purview of the Courier or ACM to opine on what constitutes infringement of copyright. They have patently infringed copyright of my images.

To this day, I have not been offered so much as an apology nor fair payment by either the Courier or ACM. I have only been stiff-armed at the end of which is a middle finger.
